INCENTIVE/FIT: When he was turned into a real boy, he was admonished that in order to remain as such, he had to be selfless, brave, and true. He strayed from that path more than a little, and woke up one morning with a painful reminder of that. His incentive for coming to the city would be to have the process of turning back into wood reversed. He spent a lot of years "not [being] that great at saying no," so it's assumed that there's not a lot he hasn't tried as far as intimacy goes (and is in fact depicted as sharing a bed with someone in one episode) and that therefore there are no hangups that would prevent him from contributing to the purpose of the city.
